Aging, pregnancy, hormonal changes and many other aspects of life take their toll on your body. The most frustrating area for men and women is the abdomen. Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery to give you a flat, toned midsection. Board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Lars Enevoldsen of Skinfinite Solutions Medical Spa and Laser Center, offers tummy tuck surgery for men and women in Modesto, Stockton and surrounding areas of California.
What is a Tummy Tuck?
If you live a healthy and active lifestyle, you expect your body to be toned, but this does not always happen. The abdomen is prone to developing stubborn fat and loose skin, and this can leave you with a midsection bulge. Abdominoplasty is a type of plastic surgery that eliminates this problem.
A tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen to create a flatter, more toned midsection. Depending on the type of procedure, it may or may not include muscle tightening.
Types of tummy tucks:
Full or standard tummy tuck with muscle repair:Treats the entire abdomen and tightens separated abdominal muscles for improved contour and core support.
Modified tummy tuck:Similar to a standard tummy tuck but performed without muscle tightening, focusing on removing excess skin and fat only.
Mini tummy tuck:Addresses the lower abdomen only. Muscle repair may or may not be included based on individual needs. Many patients have excess fat above and below the belly button, and this requires an extensive full tummy tuck. But if you only have fat below the belly button, Dr. Enevoldsen will modify his technique to perform a mini tummy tuck. The surgery is less extensive, but the results are just as impressive.
Circumferential tummy tuck:Improves contour around the entire midsection, including the abdomen, waist, and lower back. Muscle repair may be included when appropriate.
Benefits of Abdominoplasty
Men and women choose to have tummy tuck surgery for many reasons.
The surgery removes excess fat when diet and exercise fail
Abdominoplasty is effective for loose, sagging skin that cannot be remedied with other approaches
A tummy tuck gives you the edge you need to feel successful in your efforts to maintain an attractive body
How does Abdominoplasty work?
A bulge in the stomach area and love handles are caused by excess fat. Your skin may have also lost some elasticity, and the underlying muscles may be lax. Abdominoplasty addresses one or more of these problems.
Excess fat is excised from the abdomen
Loose skin is removed
Underlying muscles are tightened with sutures
What to expect from a Tummy Tuck?
Full, circumferential, modified and mini tummy tucks all require a significant incision that goes from hip bone to hip bone following the line above the pubic area. The primary difference is that a full tummy tuck also involves creating a new opening for the belly button.
Once the incision is made, Dr. Enevoldsen may use sutures to tighten the abdominal muscles. He then pulls the fat and skin tightly over the abdomen and trims the excess. If this process changes the position of the navel, he will create a new opening in the skin to accommodate the belly button. The last step is to close the incision.
Full, circumferential, modified and mini tummy tucks do require some of the longer recovery periods amongst cosmetic procedures. We will explain what to expect post-surgery during your consultation.
